Policy Proposals

Being a Wiki, this site may grow to have many international members, who may have hilarious content, but that I, personally, don't "get", or that I don't think is "funny" or "punny", but that someone out there thought it worth their time to enter it, after becoming a member. Others may deem a name to be "inappropriate", for some reason.

Therefore, I, as administrator of this site propose a platform of policies pertaining to punniness (and/or appropriateness). After long thought, and asking several key proponents of this site their opinions, I have decided that this site should NOT be considered to be "Family-Friendly"! Well, most of it is, and if you avoid any page that has a tag marked "adult", then I think it is very family-friendly.

Looking toward the future, there is no way one administrator could "police" the entire Homonomicon, from multiple international cultures, languages and nations.

**Proposed, for all Members,

Please, Create content!

  • Edit existing pages (for a Punny Name in the "Archive" section) or…
  • Create a new pages (for a Punny Name in the "Archive" section) or…
  • Enter your thoughts in the "Comments" section of pages or…
  • Enter your thoughts in the "Forum" …

Before creating a new page…

  • Check to make sure the name doesn't already have a page! SEARCH!
  • If a Named Page does exist**, even if the spelling is slightly different, **please use that existing page
  • After editing, always "SAVE"
  • After creating a new page, set "TAGS" enter space-separated words associated with that name
  • If the newly-minted page contains words, phrases or thoughts which may not be appropriate for all ages, please make one of the tags, "adullt".

Where is line drawn? Do only references to anatomical features in a Punny Name require the "adult" tag?

  • How about toilet humor?
  • How about young boy's "bugger"-type jokes?

I don't have all those answers. But I have decided in today's America, we need more openness, not less. If a name makes it to this Archive, it's probably well-known in the local communities from whence it originated. So this is self-policing, hopefully. If you see any "objectionable" content within these pages, you are free to put your thoughts on that page. If the page doesn't have the NOT_Family_Friendly tag, you are welcome to add it to that page. You are also welcome to let your feelings be known on the Forum, and if enough people feel the same way, I personally want to see the democratic thing done.

Let me know what you think of this policy. It's not the only solution, it may not be the best solution, but, I believe, long-term, it works for the wiki members. If you don't think so, tell me, and your fellow members, in the Forum!

Wiki "Gardening"

  • If you spot a page that doesn't have tags set, or…
  • The page has simple wiki formatting errors, or…
  • The page needs a Lil Moore content or…
  • The page has obvious spelling errors, then

Members are encouraged to help.

For example, someone might create a page with very little information. You may choose to research that surname or given name and expound on the first Member's ideas. This may entail putting in more links to other PNA page-names, or external resource material about that name. Links to jokes about the topic. Memories of meeting someone with a similar name. Opinions on whether the name is Stu Pitt, or whether it's Dee Best.

It is not required, but you may also want to leave a note in the comments or on the page or in the Forum that you did so.

Thank you!
